Tacodeli opening South Lamar location, serving spicy margaritas made with Salsa Doña

Tacodeli will serve a spicy margarita made with Salsa Doña at its new South Lamar location.

One of the most popular taquerias in Austin is introducing a new menu of cocktails as it moves into a new location. is taking over the old Masa y Mas space at 1817 S. Lamar Blvd. and will be pouring, among other things, a kicked-up Doña Rita, a spicy tequila cocktail fueled by the restaurant's famed green Doña Salsa. 

Masa y Mas, which was co-founded by Hopdoddy partners Larry Perdido and Chuck Smith, along with chef-partner Robert Campos, made the American-Statesman’s list of Best News Restaurants in 2023 but lasted only 18 months.

The eighth Austin location of Tacodeli, the brand created by chef/founder Roberto Espinosa and partner Eric Wilkerson in 1999, will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner beginning July 17. 

Tacodeli South Lamar will also serve beer and aguas frescas, offer high-top bar seating and an expansive outdoor patio. Some Austinites will remember the familiar space as the home to the first Austin's Pizza, and others, with longer histories in Austin, may remember it as the home of Compadres Cafe and Cantina from 1983 to 1996.

Tacodeli South Lamar will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
